After a wordy post, a picturey post

This is where I've started working semi-regularly (Johannes Haag's office). The windows look out on a beer garden.

The local bank, with plastic shielding over its windows in preparation for riot day.

Word has it that the centerpoint for the rioters will be Mariannenplatz, which is 4 blocks away from us.

2 Euros gets you a scoop of cassis sorbet and a scoop of licorice ice-cream (shown here partially eaten). Absolutely amazing. I could eat 'Lakritz Eis' every day. And I might start doing just that.

  1. licorice, anise, or fennel? (all of which, by the way, sound totally revolting to me)

  2. Licorice. At least, that's what they say it is.

And it's because of people like you that licorice was rejected by Ben and Jerry's as a flavor.

  3. Aren't you tempted to go study beerology by those beer garden windows?

  4. it's not because of people like me. it's because such flavours are objectively nasty.

  5. angelatlarge - I do. Just not in that garden. One result from yesterday: Veltins is pretty tasty. A little bit hardy, but still drinkable enough to, say, have a liter of it during a casual dinner.

Laurel - unfortunately, if the 'argument from disagreement' carries any weight in metaethics, even in principle, then there's a good argument from agreement that supports your view of things. Fortunately, neither carry much weight.
But here's one thing: if and other licoriceicecreamphobes don't have the same sort of basic taste experience I do when you try (or would try) the stuff, then maybe it's more like you've just been cheated out of the right experience. Like being born so that you always have what to me is an "F# experience" when someone plays C on an instrument (which would reasonably make you not like things written in C).
